April 12, 2017 11:00
The Delhi Daredevils beat Rising Pune Supergiants (RPS) by 97 runs, to register their first win in the 2017 Indian Premier League.
Chasing a target of 206, RPS fell like pack of cards as brilliant spells from Zaheer Khan and Amit Mishra proved enough to bowl them out for 108.
Sanju Samson's first IPL century and a whirlwind cameo of 38 runs from Chris Morris propelled the visitors to a foraying total of 205. The Pune chase never took off as wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Eventually, they fell way short and endured a pounding defeat. With 206 runs to chase, RPS already looked under pressure, and in the end fell 97 runs short. Samson scored 102 off 63 balls, propelling Delhi Daredevils to their third highest score in IPL history.
Sanju Samson went on the attack from ball number one, and treated the audience to some sumptuous stroke play. He caressed the second ball he faced through a packed offside field for four runs, and repeated the shot the very next ball. Both the shots were straight out of the screws and it was ominous of what was to come.
Samson slammed, off his next three deliveries, two more fours. Tahir's spell was wrapped up with another six, while Ashok Dinda was welcomed back into the attack with two sixes and a four in an over. Samson went on to bring up a richly-deserved maiden hundred with a stylish six off Zampa. From fifty off 41 balls, Samson had sped to 100 off just 62 balls, showing he was capable of not only buckling down and putting a price on his wicket, but also that he could get stuck in when it truly mattered.
A royal thrashing Pune have received from the hands of Delhi Daredevils at home. An all-round performance from Delhi as they bowl out Pune for 108 to win by 97 runs.
