RCB Defeat DD by 10 Runs; A Season To Forget For RCB: Says Virat

The Delhi Daredevils were defeated by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 10 runs in an inconsequential Indian Premier League match, on Sunday at Feroz Shah Kotla.

The bowlers brilliantly to defend 161 run on a pitch that was on the slower side. Delhi were on track but lost wickets at regular intervals to fall behind.

Batting first, Bangalore batsmen finally came good and led their team to a total of 161 for the loss of six wickets at Kotla. Electing to bat first, Bangalore lost an early wicket but Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle did a good job to help the team recover and score some quick runs. Gayle was dismissed for 48 but Kohli made 58 before Pawan Negi’s five-ball 13 took RCB to a decent total.

For the hosts, Rishabh Pant top-scored with 45 while for Virat Kohli’s team, Pawan Negi and Harshal Patel picked up three wickets apiece.

RCB finished the tournament with 7 points while DD ended sixth with 12 points.

However, even though after winning the game, disappointment was clearly seen in Virat Kohli’s face as the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain today termed the 10th season of IPL as “forgettable” and a season to “reflect on” for his side. The RCB finished at the bottom of the eight-team team competition with just seven points from 14 games. A disappointed Kohli said after defeating Delhi Daredevils, “It’s been a season to forget, a season to reflect on. We’ve got a great chance to look at all the things we’ve done wrong and refresh as a franchise.” “The guys took today as an opportunity and it worked out.”

Kohli commenting on the next edition of the IPL, said, “We do have guys in the 3-5 player bracket who we want to retain if that’s possible. They’ve shown the right attitude and they deserve it. It's just nice to end on a winning note.”

Kohli was full of praise for his pace duo of Harshal Patel who took three wickets in 43 runs and young Avesh Khan who took away a wicket in just 23 runs. “Both Harshal and Avesh played with a lot of heart. The way Avesh rushed it onto the batsmen on this pitch, something world-class bowlers couldn’t do, was impressive. Kohli said “We know Harshal’s skill set and he took three big wickets today, it’s unfortunate he couldn’t play more,” he said.
