The Territorial Army (TA) celebrated the completion of 62 years at a function in the nation’s capital. And following the decision by the Territorial Army to grant honorary commissions to both the sportsmen, Dhoni attended its Raising Day function at Delhi on October 9.
As a newly-commissioned honorary lieutenant colonel, India's cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni attended his first official event when he joined army Chief Gen. Vijay Kumar Singh at the celebrations.
An official source informed that he interacted with Army Chief General V K Singh while attending the Raising Day function and expressed his happiness for being selected for the coveted rank of a Lt Colonel in the Territorial Army
Earlier the Army has asked Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and ace shooter Abhinav Bindra to make themselves available at the "earliest possible date" so that they could be conferred with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the force. Last month both these sportsmen were granted the honorary rank of Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army by the President Pratibha Patil. The honour has been bestowed on Dhoni and Bindra for their outstanding contribution in the field of cricket and shooting respectively, and their commitment to the Army on various occasions.
