Delhi Daredevils CEO Amrit Mathur said today that dashing opener Virender Sehwag is ruled out for the rest of the IPL-4 matches as he has to undergo surgery for his shoulder injury.
“Sehwag will leave for England shortly for the surgery and the Australian all-rounder James Hopes was asked to take over the captaincy for the remaining matches,” he said.
This means that there may not be any fireworks in future IPL matches to be played by Delhi Daredevils. The surgery would also make him unavailable for Indian team’s forthcoming tour of the West Indies.
GMR Sports Pvt Ltd, owners of the Delhi Daredevils, said in a statement that Sehwag was advised to go for an immediate surgery after consultations with BCCI.
“The BCCI is making arrangements for Sehwag’s surgery. They are waiting for a date and we won’t come in the way of his surgery,” said a spokesman of GMR Sports.
