IPL: Punjab tames Deccan, Rajasthan brushes aside Pune

In the 53 and 52 matches played in the ongoing Indian Premier league fifth season Kings XI Punjab led by Hussey tames the Kumara Sangakara led Deccan Chargers at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. And the Rajasthan Royals led by Rahul Dravid brushes aside Pune Warriors India led by Saurav Ganguly at the Subrato Roy Sahara Stadium in Pune on Tuesday. Both home fans were disheartened as the home teams lost.

In the 53 rd Match Deccan won the toss and put Punjab into bat. Punjab opened the innings with a brilliant partnership between Shaun March and Manideep Singh who scored 22 and 75 runs. However the knock by David Miller (28 runs) in the end gave the necessary advantage to the visitors. Punjab posted a total of 170/5 in the stipulated schedule. On the bowling fronts it was Ashish Reddy who claimed two wickets while bowling remarkably well. The Deccan Chargers who had a huge target to reach succumbed to pressure. The only willow-heroes were Daniel Harris and local lad Akshath Reddy who managed to score 30 and 24. The rest were just ornamental in their approach. The Punjab bowlers were pretty neat and packed the Deccan for a mere total of 145/8. For Punjab, Praveen Kumar, Parvinder Awana and David Hussey grabbed two wickets each and caused the maximum damage to the home team. However it was Manideep’s solid 75 runs consolidated the visitors’ victory; he bagged the Man of the Match honors.

In the earlier match Pune won the toss and took batting. New comer Anustup Majumdhar played a solid knock in the middle and scored 30 runs taking the home teams total to 125/6 very humble total to defend. For the Rajasthan Royals Shaun Tait stole the show with his good bowling performance and claimed three wickets. In the second half the visitors had a roller coaster ride of fortunes. However Shane Watson played an anchor innings to see the team home with victory. His brilliant knock of 90 runs and stayed till the end saw Rajasthan make 126 runs after losing just three wickets in the seventeenth over. And he deserved the Man of the Match honors.
