Nadal's record bow-out, fans distorted

Wimbledon 2012 had an unexpected blow for the all-time champion Rafael Nadal. The world second ranked Nadal was stunned by Lukas Rosol a 26-year-old Czech ranked No. 100 on Thursday. For the first time since 2005 the champion bowed down to Rosol in a 6-7 (9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in the second round at Wimbledon. The Spaniard who had reached the final in the past five Grand Slam tournaments, and had played in the final of his past five Wimbledons, bowed down at an early stage leaving fans distrorted.

A big achievement for Rasol who won the biggest win of his career. Rasol lost each of the past five years in the first round of qualifying. It is surely a big moment for the Czech, but a disgusting one for the Spaniard.

After Nadal won the fourth set easily against Rosol, officials controversially decided to close the roof on Centre Court because of impending nightfall. Following a 30-minute roof-closure delay, Rosol stunned Nadal by breaking the Spaniard to open the fifth set. The unheralded Czech would then hold his powerful serve the rest of the way to pull off the shocker.
"I'm not just surprised, it's like a miracle for me," Rosol said. "I never expected something like this." Inspite of an antics row by the Czech as complained by Nadal, the match was resumed.

Nadal is an 11-time major champion who was fresh off his seventh French Open title in Paris a few weeks ago. He had appeared in the last five Grand Slam finals, winning two French Opens and losing to Novak Djokovic here at Wimbledon and the U.S. Open last year and the Australian Open this year. The lefthanded Nadal defeated Djokovic in the French Open final just 17 days ago.

Earlier on Thursday, Wimbledon had been engulfed by scandal with Ivo Karlovic accusing officials of cheating him out of victory against home hope Andy Murray and Gilles Simon refusing to back down in the equal prize money row. (With inputs from internet- AW AarKay)
