Drunken hooligans threaten family on I- Day

A group of drunken hooligans had turned up the volume playing cheap songs on Independance day till late night which had troubled a neighboring house with an 88-year old man. A woman from the house had made efforts to get them stop the music only to be threatened by them. The hooligans said that they would kill the family after they broke into the house. They also had turned up the volume in the presence of the police making a mockery of the khaki outfit.

The incdent took place in Dover Terrace locality on Wednesday. Ruma Haldar was a teacher in Kolkata and said that this was the day she last wanted to see in Kolkata, least of all her, her locality. She also said that her father, 88, could not even manage to sleep with such noises. The gang had come into the house tresspassing private property and used unparliamentary language, hurling abuses and threatening them for trying to lodge a complaint.
Ruma's sister-in-law, Mamatha Haldar woed, "They threatened to kill all of us for daring to lodge a complaint against them. They were hurling filthy abuses. We were terrified. I somehow managed to stop my husband and brother-in-law from confronting them. The gang would have killed them".

The hooligans mentioned that they had the support of  Debashish Kumar a councillor in the mayoral council of the local Trinamool Congress and that police could not do anything to harm them. Gariahat Police had ignored the complaint completely and the terrified family received help from the police only after they sought the help of the Lalbazar headquarters, Basudeb Haldar, brother of Ruma said.

Even after the complaints the police had made a few namesake arrests of people who were not mentioned in the FIR lodged while the accused had been let to roam freely.  "I was stunned to see Nepal Rajak and Dilip Pal —who I had named — roaming freely in the locality. My whole family is terrified now but I will see this to the end. I will fight, even if they kill me.", she said.

The police however rebuked that they ignored the complaint saying that they arrested Gaurav Das and Manojit Chowdhury who were at the spot while the search was on for those who were mentioned in the FIR.
