65th International Cannes Film Festival gets underway today

When you flip through the pages of international cinema diary, Cannes Film Festival is something that can’t skip from your eyes as it is being etched in golden letters. The 12-day-long Cannes Festival is not just any other occasion to rub the shoulders and pose for the cameras on red carpets, but something more than that to the real lovers of the cinema. It is at this spot, the marvelous movies across the globe will be screened amidst the gathering of talent, intellect and personality.

With illuminated colonies and star studded streets, Cannes is in limelight yet another time as it is all set to host the 65th International Film Festival from Wednesday. All top film makers, actors and actresses have already arrived at Cannes to take part in the film festival. It is a matter of pride for any film maker if his film gets officially screened at Cannes International Film Festival and thanks to four Indian film makers for they have also made the country proud.

A country (India) where commercial movies only occupy maximum space in newspapers and film reviews, it’s something worth applauding to note that there are still true film makers for whom cinema is not just showing off heroine’s assets and some far-from-reality fights.  The Indian films that are going to be screened this year at Cannes are Gangs of Wasseypur—part one and two. This movie was directed by Anurag Kashyap. Peddlers,  Uday Shankar’s Kalpana and Ashim Ahluwalia’s Miss Lovely.

This is a biggest year for India as it’s the first time that so many films from India are going to be screened officially. Earlier, Mrinal Sen’s and Satyajit Ray’s films were screened at Cannes International Film Festival.
