His fascination for the reality specially of the woman's life is very well known, at least his filmography depicts so. From "Chandni Bar" to "Fashion" every movie of Madhur Bhandarkar is a tale tell story of the struggles a woman faces (Barring few for intolerable cliches). And quiet interestingly he always picked a controversial subject filled with the stories of oppression against a female protagonist. Which earned him both critical acclaim and the charge of fishing on the troubled water.
So, it was just like a sensational scene of his own movie when Preeti Jain a struggling model and actress accused that Bhandarkar had raped her several times between 1999 and 2004 under the pretext of marrying her and casting her as actress in his movies , it raised eyebrows and stirred a controversy just like any of his films. A Mumbai metropolitan court had, in September 2011, found substance in Jain's complaint, and issued process against Bhandarkar, directing him to face the trial. Which made him knock the door of SC citing the lack of proper procedure and taking account of only the victim's testimony.
Monday Supreme court of India gave a verdict that dismissed all the charges against the noted director. After 9 years of legal proceedings he came out as a free man. Preeti Jain has also told court that she is not interested in pursuing the case as it is a 9-year-old case.
If ever he attempts a biopic of his own life, we do expect to hear the story in exclusive Madhur Bhandarkar way, of course.
