The magnum opus from the house of Raaj Kamal international, Viswaroopam is one of the most talked about film due to various reasons. And now the DTH release decision of Dr Kamal Haasan (actor cum filmmaker) has been opposed by the theaters owners association in Tamil Nadu who have warned that they would not allow the film on screens, if the DTH release goes ahead. In its latest bid the association also appealed to the Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa, to intervene and prevail on the veteran.
Tamil Nadu Theater Owners Association and Madurai-Ramanathapuram United Film Distributors, once again requested the veteran to reconsider the decision. They urged him to cancel the DTH release and cancel their license. The agitating members claim that the move would jeopardize their living and theaters will not have adequate revenues.
After noting that Dr Kamal was unrelenting on the issue, they warned that no films of Kamal even old, will be allowed on screen in the theaters owned by them. In addition the protesting members also said the fate would be similar for all producers who are planning a parallel DTH release.
The high budget film from Kamal had cost the unit a whopping Rs 150 crores. And Kamal feels that this would be an added revenue model which would surely attract people back to theaters to quench their technical thirst. (Wishesh AarKay)
