The magnum opus from Raaj Kamal International, Viswaroopam might not hit screens on January 11, as originally announced. Stiff opposition by the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association (TNTOA) seems to have won the battle for the time being, which denied the screens to the mega film in the Pongal session. Dr Kamal Haasan's brain child may have its release, on January 25 or 26, claimed sources.
The actor cum producer's decision to release the film a day ahead on DTH seems to have irked the theatre association which expressed that it would be opposing the film as the modus operandi adopted, will hurt its revenues.
On the other hand, Kamal claims that the DTH release would prevent piracy to a larger extent and would lure the audience back to the big screen for the special effects that are abundance in the film. He also felt that this would be an additional revenue model for the film.
Airtel DTH, which was the first to bag the DTH rights of the film announced that subsequent to the delay on screens, the DTH release would also be affected. As per schedule the digital version was to be telecast on January 10 at 9.30 pm. Most DTH operators have later joined the bandwagon and bought the rights, like Dish TV, Sun Direct, Videocon DTH, TATA DTH and Reliance Digital TV.
Bookings for the Vishwaroopam' (Tamil and Telugu) and 'Vishwaroop' (Hindi) were suspended temporarily and would resume after discussing with the versatile actor. The row had dampened the spirits of the fans who were eager to have a glimpse of the high technical film. (Wishesh AarKay)
