Although an item song is still a must in the cinema, the trend changed from getting it done by the dancers specialized in it to getting it from the heroines.  It made the poor ones go out of business for some time.  Heroines are accepting item songs as they give them popularity, keep them close to the film circle and also get them a sizable amount that is better compared to the full length roles in the movies in terms of time spent.  It is a quick buck to say.  

Abhinayasree is still remembered after 9 years for her item song in Arya “Aa ante amalapuram”.  In fact her movements and expressions gave the masala song a visual feast.  But because of the changes occurred in the item songs, so many like Abinayasree , Mumait Khan and others went out of the scene as the dance movements of the heroines are no way less than those of item gals.  

In olden days too there were specialized dancers for the item songs like Jyothi Lakshmi, Jaya Malini, Vijayalatha and others to dance to the songs of L.R.Eswari without bothering about the theme of the movie and knowledge of other actors than they act with in that particular scene.  
The pleasant surprise in the news is Abhinaysree is coming back.  Her dance movements in “Pandavulu” were so hot that offers started showering on her.  The way the comebacks fell in her lap, it is sure that we are going to see more of her in the coming films.  It may give a chance to other dancers too when the trend cycles to it again.
