Legendary filmmaker Balu Mahendra died today at Vijaya Hospital, Chennai due to serious illness. Mahendra was born in Batticaloa, Sri Lanka  to a Sri Lanka Tamil family and later shifted to Chennai. Mahendra started his filmy career as a Cinematographer in the year 1974 and in 1978 he received National Award for best Cinematography for the film Kokila.

As a cinematographer Mahendra worked for classics like Sankarabharanam and directed another classic Nireekshana in Telugu Film Industry. AndhraWishesh expresses deep condolences to his family.
