Yesteryear's actress Shabana Azmi feels India needs to discontinue the British system of censorship for films and adopt the United States system where directors are liberal about their own films and censorship. She slammed the Central Board of Film Certification for issuing a diktat on offensive words which are restrained from using in films hereafter.
Speaking at the screening of 'Qissa' film, Shabana said, “Censor Board's business is to certify and not censor according to appropriate ages. Depending upon the political situation, the censor chief changes which means every five years you expect the morality of your country to change.”
“We should adopt the American system, whereby the filmmakers themselves yield and decide that they don't want a single cut but they realise that age appropriate behaviour is important. If they have a universal exhibition then they voluntarily give cuts,” added Shabana.
Like never before, the censor issues or related have turned more controversial and were constantly in the headlines.
