The Telangana government had decided to appoint Tollywood actress Samantha as the brand ambassador for Telangana handlooms. This initiative was taken as a part of promoting the sale of domestic fabric. But the opposition Telangana Congress strongly opposed the nomination of Samantha as brand ambassador.

Telangana Congress senior leader Mohd Ali Shabbir asked state IT and Industry minister KT Rama Rao the reasons behind choosing Samantha. He also pointed out that it was a wrong decision taken by the minister and asked to come with the valid reason for the choosing Samantha as brand ambassador.

KTR recently decided to take a big initiative to promote the sale of handlooms in order to protect the weavers from debt trap and strengthen them economically in the future.
