Asin Thottumkal popularly known as Asin is an actress and a model who is turning 26 today, 26 October, 2011. Asin is born on 26 October 1985 in Kochi to Joseph Thottumkal and Dr. Seline Thottumkal. She debuted into the movie industry in 2001.
Birthday girl, actor Asin Thottumkal has gifted herself a three-bedroom, 6,000 square-feet plush apartment on Marine Drive in Kochi today. It’s her third apartment in Kochi, besides that she already has two plush apartments in Mumbai.
“It’s a beautiful apartment, overlooking the lake. It also gives a glimpse of small ships that come there. You can spend hours sitting on the sun deck,” says Asin adding, “It’s been a good year for me, so I thought why not gift an apartment to myself. And that’s what I’ve done.”
Asin has had a good year with Ready, her film with actor Salman Khan breaking box-office records. Right now, it’s her house that’s taken all her attention. According to the actor, it may take her another month or so to move into her new house as the interiors of herhouse are yet to be done.
“I will be leaving soon to shoot for Housefull 2, and won’t be around when the apartment will be ready. So, I guess, it will be some time before I get to move into my house,” says Asin.
Asin has scaled great heights in a short span of time. She started her film career with Narendran Makan Jayakanthan Vaka in Malayalam, but it was Amma Naana Oka Tamil Amaayi, her first film in Telugu, that made her a household name. With this Telugu film, news about her work, acting skills and beauty reached all corners of the South. Soon, Kollywood beckoned. It remade Amma Naana… into M. Kumaran s/o Mahalakshmi; Asin reprised her role convincingly and walked into the hearts of every Tamil. Kollywood became besotted with this actress – it almost wanted her to act in every film it made! Everyone was enamored by her beauty, energy and chirpiness. Then came a milestone in her career – Ghajini. Murugadoss knew very well that this girl would set new standards in the industry and Asin proved him right. Ghajini was a huge success and Asin was an inseparable component of that success story. The season after Ghajini saw her act with all the top heroes of Kollywood; she even became a widely-discussed name in the rest of India. The surprising fact is that her fan base stretched to include even little kids whose attention is normally riveted on the hero, his style and stunts! She has only added to her fan base after Dasavatharam, her beautiful eyes depicting mischievousness, vulnerability, and serenity. There is definitely something about her that makes everyone go crazy!
With every film she did, Asin became the heart-throb of the entire South – so much so that there was gloom when she went to Bollywood to act with Aamir Khan in the remake of Ghajini. The movie went on to become a blockbuster and Asin was now rubbing shoulders with the glitterati of Bollywood. But her second Bollywood flick London Dreams with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan (now Devgn) didn't do well at the box office. She came back strongly in Tamil with Kaavalan opposite Vijay and her recent Hindi film Ready with Salman Khan was a blockbuster. Now the actress is currently busy with Rohit Shetty's Bol Bachchan and Sajid Khan's Housefull 2 costarring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and Zarine Khan
