Veteran Malayalam and Bollywood filmmaker Priyadarshan is planning to return to Telugu movies after a long gap. Priyadarshan, who directed 90 plus movies, is now in discussions with Venkatesh for a possible team up.
Venkatesh liked Priyadarshan’s recent Malayalam movie, “Oppam”, that starred Mohanlal and asked him to prepare a script for him as well, says sources.
“Oppam” was dubbed into Telugu as “Kanupapa”. Priyadarshan earlier made “Nirnayam” with Nagarjuna in the 90’s but the film was a flop at box-office. But the movie has earned cult status now among film lovers. The songs composed by Ilayaraja are also favourite to many.
After the release of his recent release “Guru”, Venkatesh has not signed any other movie. Krish was to launch a film with him but the movie landed into trouble due to copyright issues of the story. So, the movie was dropped. Venky is now holding discussions with several filmmakers and Priyadarshan recently met him with an idea.
The duo will be seen for the first time. But, the director has two Telugu movies to his credit. Gandeevam (1994) was his last venture in Telugu.
