The US ambassador to India, Nancy Powell has said that the US companies are looking forward to striking defence deals with Indian companies. She made this statement in her first public speech in New Delhi today. Powell, however, didn't not refer the name of the companies.
"We are poised to sign an additional $8 billion in direct commercial and foreign military sales. As we share more common equipment, our bilateral defence ties will become stronger," said Powell.
It may be noted that India is world’s largest arms importer and look forward to spend nearly $100 billion to upgrade the equipments. Keeping in view the same, some of America’s giants are showing interest in executing agreement with India over the same.
Meanwhile, Nancy Powell has said that her main role as the ambassador was to see to it that the bilateral trade and investment boost. (Phani)
