Punjab police booked case against an NRI and his parents after a woman filed a complaint of dowry harassment against her husband and her parents. The accused live in Italy were charged with torturing woman mentally and physically over dowry. The police, in fact, invoked several sections against them. Victim name Gurinder's wedding was solemnized with an NRI in 2006, said police. Also, they said Gurinder's husband and his parents milked near Rs. 15 lakhs from her family as dowry. They didn't stop it there and started harassing her for move money, added police.

Gurinder was allegedly left in India and demanded Rs. 3 lakh from victim's family citing it as the expenses that would be incurred for taking her from India to Italy.  Further, victim said her jewellery and other precious ornaments were taken away from her by her mother-in-law. Gurinder last year gave birth to a baby girl after which the her husband and in laws sent her back to India.

In the modern IT era, it's unfortunate that dowry harassments keep hitting headlines. Dowry is nothing less than rape and murder.
