NRI Husbands Must Now Register Their Marriage Within A Week:- Non-resident Indian (NRI) who will fly abroad from the country will have to register their marriage within a week after getting married. They should even update their marital status on their passports revealed the Centre. An inter-ministerial panel took the decision to prevent NRI husbands abandoning their wives. Such cases saw a huge rise in the recent times after which the Centre took this decision.

If the husband fails to update their marital status on their passports, their documents will be revoked informed the officials. The group of ministers also ordered the Passport Department to make all the necessary amendments at the earliest. The panel was set up last year and after going through several cases, the committee took the decision. Home Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad, Menaka Gandhi and others attended the meeting.

Necessary changes are being made to Registration of Births and Deaths Act, 1969. The amendments will go to the cabinet for approval after which the law will be implemented.
