New Jersey Republicans Nominate Indian-American For Senate Seat:- Businessman Rik Mehta is the first Indian-American to win the Senate seat from New Jersey, USA. Rik Mehta will represent Republican party and will face Senator Cory Booker from Democratic party in the elections that are scheduled to take place in November. Rik Mehta worked as an official for US Food and Drug Adminstration and he defeated Hirsh Singh, his rival who is also an Indian-American. He won with a margin of 13,743 votes. The mail-in ballot counting is delayed because of which the announcement of the final results is delayed.
New Jersey will have candidates of color nominees for the first time. Booker, an African-American in the race won the Democratic primary with 89% of the votes. Both the Senate seats in the state are held by Democrats. Rik Mehta did BS in Pharmacy from Rutgers University and did his D. Pharm from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Rik Mehta is a biotech entrepreneur and a healthcare policy expert and is a licensed pharmacist, attorney.
