Styles like neckties, chequered scarves, jackets, sweaters vests, waist coats, formal footwear are some of the latest trends that young and fashion savvy girls are sporting with ease. To check this new trend out and on tips to make a style statement with this look, we talk to few fashion stylists, designers and fashion conscious college girls.
For Devina, a second year student from Satyam Fashion Institute, following trends is very important. "I am a student of fashion designing and keeping myself update is an essential part of my studies. With fashion trends that keep on adding styles season after season it is essential to keep myself updated. I like to wear boyish look at my college as the trend is in vogue and also suits my personality," she chuckles.
Sanjeev Jain, CEO, G Plus, is of the opinion that the boyish look is very much in vogue this season. "Women are using accessories like ties to stand out in crowd, A chequered scarves such as this is an immensely versatile accessory which could be used to transform anything from a casual look to the smartest of work attire or that favorite little black dress, while women add instant sophistication to a business or work outfit with a waistcoat and formal footwear show your serious attitude," he believes.
It was in 1920 when legendary fashion designer Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel created the "modern woman" look; she was the one who introduced the boyish look for woman in the fashion history. Then on, this look has always been a part of woman's wardrobe.
However, with the changing time the styles too have changed with twists and turns in designs, appearance etc. The woman of today has changed and become bolder. They want to be mobile and comfortable and are ready to experiment. It's not just drapes or flared dresses they are looking for but be comfortable and "free".
This is the reason that a lot of boyish styles are seen back in vogue. No woman just wants to look like a "Barbie doll" today. The major reason for this transpiration is also that every year the percentage of working woman is increasing which makes them look for comfort wear rather than something which is just high on fashion.
Elaborating more on the trend designer Gautam Gupta says, "Though I agree that the silhouettes have been more straight and comfortable but as far as colours are concerned the woman still looks for brighter shade along with the nude shade. Fuchsia, turquoise, wine, crimson are few shades which are going very strong this season and even for the trends for the next year spring shows quite new bright shades. No doubt the boyish colours are becoming popular as they represent universality and are easier to carry."
"Undoubtedly the styles and fashions of this look are iconic, timeless classics and still shape the woman of today beautifully. I would say this look is just not simply a matter of beautiful styles, but also the "modern" attitude and spirit," he adds.
"Shrunken t-shirts, lean pants was counterpointed by girlie dresses for a girl with attitude, wear dark colour jeans preferably black to get the more serious look, the boyish look will definitely rule in office, college, school or when you are meeting with clients," feels designer Bharti Bhalla.
With trend back in vogue, it is time to wear your attitude with oomph and style.
