Is Devyani Khobragade being made a scapegoat?

India is breathing fire and why? Apparently, country's top political leaders are furious with the way US officials have dealt with India's Deputy Consul General in New York Dr Devyani Khobragade.

Dr Khobragade, who was arrested on charges of house arresting her paid and giving her minimum wage,  was apparently strip searched in custody and made to stand with common criminals, drug addicts and sex workers by the US Marshals.

In retaliation, India put forth a slew of measures to pare down the privileges of American diplomats living in India.

US diplomats in consulates across the country have been ordered to surrender identity cards issued to them and their families, which entitle them to special privileges. India has also withdrawn all airport passes for consulates and import clearances for the embassy. The Delhi police have been asked to remove barricades outside the US embassy.

"The law of strict reciprocity is in place, if they say Ms Khobragade had limited immunity then so will US officials" diplomatic sources affirmed.
