History of Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a celebration honoring mothers, motherhood and influence of them in the society. The celebration of this day started in the United States in the year 1908. Initially this Mother's day was celebrated only in West Virginia state and by 1910, it spread to all the remaining states.

In 1914, it was officially declared that second Sunday of May will be celebrated as Mother's Day to honour mothers. A Social activists named Anna Marie Jarvis is the founder of Mother's Day who held a memorial for her beloved mother. Her initiative and campaign has brought recognition.

However, Mother's Day is celebrated in countries on different dates based upon their tradition. In India, as tomorrow is second Sunday of May, Mother's Day is widely celebrated.
