Career shifting is risky if you don't have grip on the field

Are you looking forward to a change in profession only to earn those extra bucks? Is yes, then wait...think before you take the so called giant leap as that big step can turn not just your career, but even your life upside down.

There is a slight difference between job hopping and career shifting! If you jump to another company for some reasons, but stick to the same field, it's termed as job hopping whereas changing your profession is called career shifting.

While job occasional job hopping is considered as a smart move by even many IIM students and other job experts, career shifting is extremely risky. Imagine you are an accountant and you are good at spoken English but that doesn’t mean you can try your hands at writing profession. Similarly an accountant can manage to get some knowledge on software by learning some subjects at private institutions outside and he would only be foolish if he plunges into software field with a little or no grip on the subject.

Yes, grip on the subject is what matters the most without which you would only be nailing your career. Just forget what people from other professions are earning. Always remember that you chose this career out of passion and as long as there’s passion, no rushing stream can stop you. Money will follow you one day or the other…and always remember the pro-verb ‘success doesn’t come overnight.’   (phani)
