Mumbai Indians win, not till the last ball at Bangalore

Cricket27For the second game in a row, it was two needed off the final delivery. For the second game in a row, the fielding captain chose to keep the field spread out, and the chasing side won. The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium bore witness to yet another last-ball finish as Mumbai Indians notched up the narrowest of victories for a second time in the Champions League T20. Mumbai Indians continued their winning-run in the Champions League T20 cricket tournament with a nail-biting one-wicket win over spirited Trinidad and Tobago, at Bangalore on Monday.

The audience enjoyed the match till the last ball and the tension mounted, finally it was Chahal who brought smiles to the Mumbai camp, picking up two runs in the last ball of the innings.

Electing to bat, Trinidad and Tobago found the going tough after a half-decent start, Trinidad & Tobago had lurched to 98 after losing eight wickets for 41 runs in a space of 9.3 overs, courtesy a three-wicket haul from Mumbai Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh. Mumbai Indians, who had been brilliant on the field tonight, finally brought the curtains down on TT's innings with Yuzvendra Chahal taking a stunning catch off Nechim to dismiss Sunil Narine.

However, Mumbai Indians floundered during their runchase and were into all sort of trouble with T&T's Ravi Rampaul doing most of the damage, claiming three wickets that had left them tottering at 33 for five in just 8.3 overs at one stage. Rayudu and R. Sathish then set about working on the recovery: from 33 for five in 8.3 overs, they helped the score to 65 in seven more overs — a period that included 28 balls without a boundary — before the latter was dismissed. Harbhajan Singh lightened Mumbai's fears with a six off Sherwin Ganga but was run out with 24 needed off 17 balls. Fifteen were needed off the final two overs, but Rampaul conceded only four runs. Neither side was clear favourite at that point; the result did nothing to set them apart either.

At the end Mumbai Indians were relieved by marking the most unconventional win in the entire IPL session. And for the T&T this was a match worth their sweat how close they were to a win yet lost.

Trinidad & Tobago: Scored a Total (in 16.2 overs) 98 with J. Mohammed – 23, L. Simmons run out 21 in the bowling department Mumbai Indians had a good spell with Malinga claiming 2 wickets & Harbhajan took 3 wickets.
