The scientists and engineers of the Strategic Force Command (SFC) of the Defence Ministry today successfully test fired two nuclear capable, surface-to-surface Prithivi-2 missiles within a short span of one hour from the Integrated Test Range at Chandipur in Orissa.
The two missiles, fired at 08.15 IST and 9.15 IST respectively, successfully zeroed in on their pre designated targets exactly after 8 minutes after launch. Today's success of the Prithivi-2 missile launch followed its failure when it could not take off in September last resulting in disappointment to the scientists.
Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO) officials said in Hyderabad that all the radars, electro-optical and telemetry systems have successfully tracked the trajectory of the missiles.
Prithvi-2 is a 9-metre tall, single stage and liquid propelled missile system having a range of 350 km which can carry nuclear war heads and payloads of 500 kg to 1000 Kg.
