The Supreme Court, delivering its judgment on a petition filed by the disqualified MLAs, said the Speaker of the Karnataka Assembly acted against the principles of natural justice and constitutional provisions in deciding their disqualification.
The Speaker’s decision was challenged in the Karnataka High Court which upheld the Speaker’s verdict allowing the survival of the tainted BJP government forcing the disqualified MLAs to move the highest court of the land.
The 16 MLAs were disqualified by the Speaker when the Government was faced with a no trust vote.
