Jaya orders inquiry into Karuna’s pet projectThe AIADMK Government today announced a Commission of Inquiry by a retired High Court Judge to probe the alleged irregularities in the construction of the Rs. 1,000 Cr new Assembly secretariat complex, a pet project of the previous DMK Government.
 
Outlining the policies of the new AIADMK regime led by Chief Minister Jayalalitha in his address to the state assembly, Governor Surjith Singh Barnala said the commission will inquire into the irregularities in the construction like excess expenditure, inordinate delay and deficiency in standards of construction.
 
“There would be no further works till the completion of the inquiry,” the Governor said. Jayalalitha in her election campaign described the new complex as circus tent and flayed the lack of any aesthetic appeal in the construction.
 
Distribution of free fan, mixer/grinders
 
The Governor has also announced that in the first phase the government would distribute free fan, mixer/grinder to 25 lakh people on September 15, as per the promise made in the election manifesto of the AIADMK.
 
On the health front, the existing Kalaignar Insurance Scheme would be replaced by a new Public Health Insurance scheme shortly, he said.
