Serving a stern warning to those who are laying claims to the ownership of the Rs.1 lakh Cr worth gold treasure unearthed from the secret chambers of the Sree Anantha Padmanabha Swamy temple in Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala, the Supreme Court directed its special committee to film and photograph the inventory process of the treasure.
“The complete process of unearthing the treasure and its inventory should be filmed and photographed,” it said in its orders. “Serious consequences will befall if any party or group starts claiming ownership of the treasure,” warned the court.
The Supreme Court said that it would hand over the responsibility of preserving the treasure to a curator of a museum and would pass orders on preserving the art facts after consultations with experts on Friday.
The apex court also ruled that it would also decide which item should be displayed in the museum and which should be kept in safe vaults. It might be mentioned that the special committee found gold treasure worth Rs.1 lakh Cr in the secret chambers of the temple after a Thiruvananthapuram lawyer filed a PIL seeking unearthing of the treasure and their preservation. The secret chambers were opened after 150 years on the orders of the Supreme Court.
