Gandhian and anti-corruption crusader Mr Anna Hazare’s followers began burning the copies of the toothless Lok Pal Bill even as the Government introduced it in the Lok Sabha today.
Anna’s followers said they have burnt the copies of the Bill in a symbolic protest and would continue to do so till August 16 when Anna Hazare begins his indefinite fast demanding a strong Lok Pal Bill.
The government-introduced Lok Pal Bill doesn’t cover the Prime Minister during his or her term in office but would give powers to the ombudsman to investigate the leader after he or she demits office.
The proposed bill also excludes the higher echelons of judiciary and the behaviour of MPs in the Parliament or in a House Committee. The followers of the Gandhian have alleged that the government has omitted from the bill almost all important recommendations and proposals made by Hazare and his team.
