Even as fingers are being raised on the involvement of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in the pricing policy of the 2G Spectrum following the leaking of a letter written by the then communications minister Mr Dayanidhi Maran to the PM, former Telecom Minister A. Raja on Monday requested the special CBI court to summon and examine the Home Minister P. Chidambaram as a witness in the 2G spectrum allocation case.
Senior advocate Shushil Kumar, defending Raja in the case, told the Special CBI Judge O.P. Saini that Mr. Chidambaram’s statement should be recorded with regard to a Cabinet meeting in which he had clarified the issue of dilution of shares.
Mr. Chidambaram must be asked to clarify whether he gave the advice for dilution of shares in the presence of the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
Meanwhile, the opposition is pointing fingers at the PM in the 2G Spectrum scam after media exposed a letter written by the then telecom Minister Dayanidhi Maran asking him to dilute the terms of reference of the GoM and ensure that the issue of pricing of spectrum would remain with the telecom ministry.
Maran has written the letter to the PM on February 1, 2006 after the latter had asked a group of ministers to look into the release of additional spectrum and pricing of the scarce 2G spectrum. The document was obtained by the RTI activist Vivek Garg from the PMO under the Right to Information Act.
