The visit of the Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton has sent a sharp demand to her Pakistani counterpart, Hina Rabbani Khar for greater cooperation to act against the Haqqani network, a militant group that the US blames for attacking its interests in Afghanistan, during her visit to Pakistan on Friday.
In a joint press conference Ms. Clinton said that joint efforts made by U.S. and Pakistan are the best solution to eradicate Haqqani Network and its terrorist activities. She added that the Haqqani network is a threat to both the nations and the neighbours also and Pakistan had to deal firmly on this issue. She further added Haqqani Network and other terrorist organizations would be crushed and the desired results would be gained in certain days.
"It's like that old story - you can't keep snakes in your backyard and expect them only to bite your neighbours. Eventually those snakes are going to turn on whoever has them in the backyard," Clinton said during a joint press conference. Ms. Clinton on Friday stated that military offensive is not the only solution to eradicate terrorism while adding that the negotiations with Pakistan and Afghan Taliban are also important to move forward for a smooth peace process.
To questions regarding the planning that Pakistan would do in the wake of request from US regarding the Haqqani network, Ms. Rabbani refused to respond. But she only said that the country’s future strategies would be guided by a resolution adopted by a recent meeting of the Pakistan's political parties, which had called for giving "peace a chance."
