Spurious liquor kills 131 persons

In a tragic incident, 131 persons died after consuming spurious liquor at Sangrampur in the South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal today.

Officials said the death toll may rise further with nearly 100 persons being treated in various hospitals in the district. “The condition of some of those who fell ill has turned serious and the death toll is likely to go up,” said hospital staff.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has announced a probe into the incident by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID. The police have so far arrested 7 persons who supplied the spurious liquor to the people.  (JUBS)
