The Central Board of Secondary Education has decided to offer courses for Class XI and XII in fitness and gym operation. This course would be ideal for those who wish to become gym teachers and even physiotherapists.
Initially, it would be started as a pilot project only at 50 schools across the nation and once it receives good response, the board may go ahead and make it regular at all schools.
Talking about the proposed course and its uses, one of the board members said: “We are hoping that the course will help students to build a career in the fitness industry. It will also help students who are interested in making a career in sports.”
This will be the course structure:
· Total marks: 60
· Practical: 40 marks
· Theory: 20 marks
· Subjects: health, fitness, physiology of exercise and training, diet and nutrition, structure of health-related fitness
· Practical: gym, placements and handling of gym equipment, CPR, fitness testing, exercises and body composition analysis
· Internship: 15-days in house apprenticeship mandatory
This course is likely to become a big hit and tell the world that there’s so much to offer to students apart from bundles of theory books.
Lets hope that this proposed initiative will become a new step towards changing the conventional educational system in our country.
