Trinamool Congress chief and West Bengal chief minister, Mamata Banerjee is scheduled to meet the AICC president and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi in Delhi today. This meeting gained significance in the wake of selection of presidential candidate. Mamata was, in fact, supposed to attend MPs meeting on Wednesday in Kolkata. The didi changed her plan in the last minute and post poned the meeting. She left for Delhi on Tuesday.
When media asked her about presidential candidate, Mamata Banerjee said she could not say anything at that point of time as the decision of selecting the presidential candidate solely rests in the hands of the Congress party.
The analysts are of the opinion that after a wide discussion with Mamata Banerjee, the AICC is going to come out with presidential candidate. Notably, the schedule for presidential elections has already been released and the notification for the same would be started on June 16.
Speculations are high that Pranab Mukherjee will be selected as the presidential candidate since he has been serving the party for over decades and once eyed at prime minister's seat. But, the sources said that many allies in the UPA are not okay with Pranab as prime minister while scores of people in the country wish to see Abdul Kalam as the President yet another time. All in all, the ball is in the court of Congress and one needs to put their fingers crossed until a few days to know who the candidate would be.
