Government vote bank strategies responsible for water paucity

Members of the opposition and many other civic activists in Pune said that the government had played many games to gain votes by tricking the public and they now are facing problems. One such trick is the water scarcity problem today. They said that the 2 month delay in the water cuts was an intentional move by the politicians just to gain votes.

They also said that if civic body responsible for the water management had made the necessary water cut as directed by the irrigation department’s instructions issued on 27th December 2011 there would be enough water present to sustain the paucity that has arisen now. According to the directives the water saving measures were to be in effect starting on 1st January 2011.

The water saving measures were not in effect till March, after the civic election results were out. The rationing of the supply was a measure to make the best use of the available water till the monsoons replenishes the reservoirs and dams, but it was ignored as they would have to do it at the cost of a few votes.

The political parties have now targeted the deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar's water policy lampooning him for his short-sighted selfish motives.

Irrigation department officials said that the water levels dropped in the Khadakwalsa dam projects after the water was released for the Kharif Crops. Pawar had met with the irrigation department and decided that the civic bodies of Pune Pimpri Chinchwad should enforce the rationing methods of water managements to ensure that there would be no scarcity in the future.

If the government which is supposed to stand by the people, tricks the people into believing that they are serving the people unstintingly, how would the unknowing public know about the antics of the government officials?
