Five country made pistols were seized by the police from 2 men at the Howrah station on Monday morning and both of them were arrested.

Shahid Hossain, 19 and Asraful Islam 21 were both arrested immediately after they got off the Jamalpur Express on the Eleventh platform.

Initially both Shahid and Asraful had planned on hopping off the train at Burdwan where they were to hand over the guns to a local contact, Government Railway Police (GRP) said. However, why the duo had not done it is not clear to the GRP.

It has been a common occurrence in the Howrah bound Jamalpur Express that passengers were often found in the possession of firearms. CRPF constable Lakshman Rao was arrested on the 11th of July for carrying several fire arms. And only 5 days later a Anup Kumar Adak, an Army jawan was also fined for a similar violation. The superintendent of the Railway police in Howrah, Mrinalkanta Das has said that he had spoken to the police in Bihar regarding the transport of firearms from Bihar. The Howrah police have also started an investigation.
