The Government Railway Police (GRP) handed over a bag containing gold ornaments, cash and other valuables after tracing its rightful owner.
Giving details to the media, GRP Inspector P. Srinivasa Rao said that Raheema of Amalapuram in East Godavari district was a cancer patient. She went to Hyderabad for treatment. Her relatives and friends had given her cash to help her cope with the high cost of treatment.
Her bag was picked up by some other passenger at the railway station who thought it was his bag. Raheema also did not realise what had happened. After sometime some other passenger came to her and took away the bag she had with her stating that it was his bag.
A hapless Raheema returned home dejected. GRP constables found an abandoned bag in the Janmabhoomi Express and seized it.
They checked it and found a gold bangle, gold ring, cell phone and Rs.20,230 and some clothes in it. Luckily, there was a ration card and with the help of the address on it they contacted Raheema.
The woman gave correct details of the valuables she had lost. Mr. Srinivasa Rao asked her to come to Visakhapatnam and returned her the lost valuables. Raheema expressed her gratitude to the Railway Police who had recovered her lost property though she had not lodged a complaint.
