Death Toll in Assam violence rises to 36; Army troops deployed

The etnich clash, still relentless in Assam, has caused the death of many and the toll has now risen to 36. Army troops have been deployed on Wednesday to help restrict the violence in the 4 highly affected regions; Kokrajhar, Dhubri, Chirang and Bongaigaon.

Lt Col Phogat, the spokesman for Defence had said that they have already deployed over 13,000 troops to the four districts. The army had already staged flag marches both in vehicles and on foot in areas where vehicles are are unable to travel.

Defence ministry had to use the army's intervention as the riots showed nosigns of dying down. On Tuesday evening the toll of the people who died was at 32 and by the next morning it had already risen to 36 with 4 dead bodies being discovered in Bijni in Bongaigaon.

The army is ready in position in the entire state for carrying out Operations Rhino and other counter insurgency operations that were sanctioned by the government.

Hangrama Mohilary the chief executive member of the Bodoland Territorial Council had asked Tarun Gogoi, the chief minister of the State in a message for assistance of the Armed forces in the troubled areas on Tuesday afternoon.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had promised to provide all necessary assistance including the support of the Army.

40 companies of the paramilitary forces are currently deployed in Kokrajhar and Chirang. Officials have said that there would be more forces deployed to the regions.
