At Chandipur, about 15 Km away from Balasore, India had test fired BrahMos cruise missile at the Intergrated Test Range successfully. Though the scientists working on the programme called the test a successful one, a few sources quoted the test had failed to meet all set mission parameters.
BrahMos was developed by India with help from the Russians and was launched at the complex III at 10:35 am in the fully operational configuration. The launch was successful but the missile had failed to reach the pre-coordinated targets as it fell down into the sea.
ITR authorites had said that the launch was perfect and denied that they were any objectives that weren't met by the test. DRDO, Defence Research and Development Organization had conducted the test and it was a successful test experimentally said the ITR's director MVKV Prasad.
BrahMos a two stage missile measured 9 meteres in length and weighed a crushing 3.9 tonnes along with the canister. It is capable of reaching speeds upto 3 Mach and can be launched over to a distance of 290 Km. It can easily be launched from Silos, road, rail mobile launchers and also ships. It also has the capacity to carry over 300 Kg warhead. This missile speciality is the 3 Mach speed and yet precise and powerful. There is no known counter to the BrahMos.
