Rs 70 crores spent on Mumbai rains fail to come to the rescue

The Mumbai rains that continued into the second day had hit the city hard bringing it to a state of impasse. The Brihan Mumbai Corporation had been left speechless after its promises of being prepared to tackle the monsoon this year were shattered with only a two day rain. Mayor also had been shamed after he seconded the promise.

It is no news that over Rs 50 crore had been spent already by the BMC this year itself to prevent the silt accumulation in the drains while over Rs 26 crores was invested in filling up the potholes for the effective management of the inclement weather in Mumbai in the monsoon. The BMC and the railways passed had only played the “pass it on” game amongst themselves in the issues of de-silting the tracks.

Water has started receding in several parts of the Metropolitan but the Meteorological Department has predicted heavy to very heavy rains to ensue in most parts of the city even after Tuesday. The city remains waterlogged in most parts of the city.

One person died while four others were injured due to the torrential rainfall according to Mumbai news.Parts of Dadar Hind Mata and many roads were waterlogged. Low-lying areas across the city were flooded. Municipal Corporation in the city had deployed over 110 water pumps to pum out the excess water inundating the streets.
In Mumbai, heavy rains continued overnight throwing normal life out of gear, flooding streets and stalling traffic. This had created havoc in the whole city.
Waterlogging was reported in western suburbs of Malad, Kandivali and Jogeshwari.
