There seems to be an unusual calmness prevailing in the fisher folks hamlet of Idinthakarai, Kudankulam in Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. The fisher folks residing in the village were protesting for the closure of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP), that had come up with a twin reactor under collaboration with the Russian authorities on the shores. The fishermen feared the disaster on similar lines of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident that claimed several lives, in Japan just last year.
Police tightening vigil as anti-nuclear protesters continued with their relay fast at Idinthakari. Earlier yesterday section 144 was slapped and security was tightened around all entry points of KNPP. However the undue calmness seems to irk all keenly watching the developments of the issue. As per sources the People's Movement Against Nuclear Energy (PMANE) that spearheads the protests shall agitate near the police stations, tonight.
The year long agitation had no untoward incidents recorded till date, except for the death in Tuticorin district. One person was killed in police firing when protesters tried to attack a police station at Manapad in the district. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
