Media people injured in Kudankulam

Media people who came from all across to record the latest happenings in Kudankulam were stuck in the melee that prevailed on Monday. The fisher folks residing in the Idinthakarai village were protesting for the closure of the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Project (KNPP) in the Tirunelveli District of Tamil Nadu. On Monday they intensified the protests and took the sea route to reach the plant as security was tightened across all other entry points to KNPP. As the protestors approached the plant by the sea route police opened teargas fire on the protestors who were unrelenting. In the melee that ensued several media personnel were injured say sources.

A particular media person was recording the various ways that the security personnel were adopting to suppress the protests. On noticing the keenness of the lens man, forces are said to have attacked him. The media person is under medical care and required at least four stitches above his eyebrow. As per some others all the evidences were well destroyed too. Some more claim that even  motorcycles belonging to three media persons were also damaged.

The whole situation looks very chaotic and looks like under control as of now. But a serious, way to express their anguish is on the anvil, say sources. KNPP that had come up with a twin reactor under collaboration with the Russian authorities on the Idinthakarai shores, received a green signal from the authorities for loading the reactor with fuel. However local fishermen feared a disaster on similar lines of the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear incident that claimed several lives, in Japan just last year. (With inputs from internet-AW AarKay)
