Kill fire with fire, US goes the gun-way

Guns are primarily forms of defense but they have been used for the wrong purposes altogether. US has recently recorded several incident of extreme violence, a few of which can be considered wild massacres. Following the incidents that shook the nation and the world to the roots, the US citizens have started fearing such incidents and there has been a drastic increase in the number of people who too the path of killing fire with fire.

People who were applying for an arms license were increasing, the FBI reports suggested. In December 2013 alone there were over 2.8 million background checks the FBI conducted. This has been the highest record set yet. November that year earlier had around 2 million checks.

The rise can totally be attributed to the Connecticut School Massacre in December which killed 20 children and 6 adults in all. Adam Lanza the accused wreaked havoc at the Sandy Hook Elementary school while he barged into the school and killing people mercilessly. At a time when arms for all is being the most debated topic, the number of people trying to purchase one for themselves to battle any unprecedented mishaps have been steadily on the rise. When FBI approves the background check, a person is eligible to buy one or more firearms.

Last year there were 1.9 million background checks in December, with a 49% increase for the month. There was a total increase of 19% for the year with 19.6 million checks for 2012.

Will the new stirred interest take its turn to the worst, as people try to make use of the situation for more violent reasons? I hope not, knock on wood, but it is still a fair possibility.
