Adilabad district police today arrested Manthol MLA Mr Venugopalachari in a case registered in connection with an assault on a woman.
The woman, Mrs Lakshmi Bai, complained to the police on Monday that she was assaulted and forced to close her shop as part of the bandh organized by the Telangana political JAC. She was injured in the incident.
The complaint said Venugopalachari and his supporters asked her to close the shop for the bandh. She said Venugopalachari and his men had assaulted her and forcibly closed her shop following her refusal.
Venugoapalachari recently quit TDP and joined hands with rebel TDP MLA Mr Nagam Janardhan reddy for the cause of Telangana. He had actively participated in the bandh on Monday along with TRS supporters and other pro-Telangana activists.
The injured Lakshmi Bai was being treated in the Bhainsa area hospital.
