Partial ban on plastic use comes into force

Partial ban on plastic use comes into forceThe ban on manufacturing, sales and use of plastic bags of less than 40-micron thickness in Hyderabad has come into force from today.

GHMC, which is very much determined to implement the ban strictly, said its enforcement teams will conduct raids on plastic manufacturing units, dealers, distributors, whole-sellers, super markets and major malls to ensure the ban is implemented with effectiveness.

The GHMC is not targeting the small vendors like kirana shops, eateries, restaurants and other small establishments as they have already complained that their distributors have not been supplying them the above -40 micron plastic bags even after repeated requests.

Mr Aleem Basha, the GHMC additional commissioner, said they would mainly target at halting the production of below-40 micron carry bags so that the retailers will not be able to sell them.
