The Supreme Court today refused to provide interim bail to the former Satyam Computers Chairman Mr Ramalinga raju and his brother B. Rama Raju in the Rs.14, 000 Cr accounting fraud case and adjourned hearing to Nov 3 on their bail plea.
As a result, the Raju brothers will have to spend the Diwali festival in jail. Both the brothers are now in Chanchalguda jail in Hyderabad. The apex court served notices to the Centre and the CBI and asked them to file their objections on the bail petitions.
When senior advocate Ashok Desai, appearing for the brothers, pleaded for interim relief saying five other accused in the case have recently been granted bail by the apex court, the court refused to grant bail to them saying that the accused came late with the bail applications.
Along with the two brothers, former Chief Financial Officer Vadlamani Srinivas also approached the court seeking bail.
It may be mentioned that the apex court granted bail to five other accused in the case on Oct 12. They are former internal chief auditor V S Prabhakar Gupta, executives G Ramakrishna, D Venkatpathi Raju and Ch Srisailam. The fifth is the former auditor of PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PWC) Subramani Gopalakrishnan.
