The Supreme Court today issued notices to the AP Government and the TRS on the repeated disruption of normal activity in the state due to the Telangana agitation.
The apex court issued notices on a PIL filed by advocate PV Krishnaiah who said that the administration in AP has been completely paralyzed for nearly one year due to the frequent strikes, rail rokos and bandhs as part of the agitation carried out by the TRS leadership.
The bench, consisting of the justices GS Singhvi and S Mukhopadhaya, also issued notices on the pleas of the petitioner who sought a direction to the Centre to restrain it from carving a new state out of Andhra Pradesh.
Mr Krishnaiah contended that the power to carve out a new state from an existing state under Article 3 of the Constitution is vested with Parliament and the same cannot be done by the Government without amending Article 371-D.
The petitioner further contended that except for the High Court, all other courts in the Telangana area have not functioned properly in the last one year due to the agitation. The court issued notices to the registrar general of the high court and the state bar council on the issue.
