OMC former official Anjaneya reveals illegalities in mining

New facts, which are emerging in the OMC illegal mining case, show YSR Congress president Mr YS Jaganmohan reddy as one of the partners in the Brahmani Steels.

Mr V.Anjaneya, who worked as the deputy general manager in the OMC in the past, filed a petition in the Supreme Court seeking protection to his life. He said in his petition he feared threat to his life and sought direction to the authorities to give him protection.

He revealed in his petition that the management of the Brahmani steels had entered into a joint venture agreement with Jagan and some other persons. “To pool up the estimated investment of Rs. 15,000 Cr to launch the steel factory, they approached the banks,” he revealed in his application.

Mr Anjaneya revealed that the iron ore available in the mines of the Antargangamma hills in the AP-Karnataka border is of low quality ranging from 18 E to39 E  which is not suitable for using in a steel plant.

“However, the mines of the Antargangamma hills were shown as the captive mines for the Brahmani Steels and they tried to seek loans showing them as collateral securities,” he said.

Tri junction points in the border destroyed

He said the men of Gali Janardhan reddy along with surveyors DN Lakshmi Prasad and assistant surveyor Pampena Gowda destroyed the Tri junction points in the mines of the Antargangamma hills in the AP-Karnataka border on June 17, 2005 with detonators. “The border posts were totally removed by them,” he said in his petition.

Illegal mining

Mr Anjaneya stated that the OMC resorted to illegal mining in the Bellary reserve forest and exported 27.5 million tonnes of iron ore to foreign countries showing it as the iron ore extracted in the mines of the Antargangamma hills.

List of officials cooperated

He gave a list of AP and Karnataka officials who cooperated with the OMC owner Gali Janardhan reddy in the illegal mining.

Mr Basava Raj of the mining department and Mr Darappa Naik of the forest department of the Karnataka government and mining department deputy director Satyanarayana, and forest officers K.Biswas, Narayana Swami Nayudu and Srinivasa reddy of the AP Government were among those who helped the OMC, he said in his affidavit.

He said the transport permits given by the above officials were collected by the OMC employees Mallikarjun and Subba reddy. “After the CBI registered case against the OMC, they forced me to destroy the old records and create false records,” he charged them.

CBI is now investigating the affidavit given by Mr Anjaneya.
